Kerry Meehan didn't grow up in these mountains — he grew up on the mission field in Ecuador, where he started climbing as a young man. The terrain was different, but the ropework wasn't: the same rigging and knot-craft that got him up a mountainside translates almost one for one into getting him safely into the canopy of a tree. He's been trimming and falling trees professionally for over five years. He and his wife, Bekah, have four boys — each one named after a peak the two of them summited together.

That climbing background matters more here than it would somewhere flat. A lot of the properties across Carter, Washington, Unicoi, Johnson, and Sullivan counties sit on grades, gorges, and gravel drives that rule out a bucket truck entirely. Kerry climbs and rigs by hand for exactly those situations — it's not a fallback method, it's the specialty.
